Students who wrote the multiple-choice Federal Election quiz on Wednesday received their marks today. In addition to receiving their marked quiz, the class reviewed each question and we even calculated which questions were the most challenging. Without a doubt, questions 1 and 10 were the most difficult. We were sure to spend a bit more time discussing these two questions. Results for the short answer quiz are forthcoming, but they will take a bit longer. Please ask your child to share their multiple-choice quiz results with you.
In Humanities today, 6.1 and 6.2 examined the results of yesterday's Federal election. Tomorrow, we will be having a knowledge quiz about the results as well as the voting process that we participated in prior to Fall Break. I have suggested that all students take some time to visit these two sites to refresh their understanding of the actual results as well as the Student Vote results. Actual election results can be found here Student Vote election results can be found here Here's a cool video the organizers of Student Vote put together: Welcome back from Fall Break! We trust everyone was able to enjoy their break and find time to relax and connect with family. We wanted to provide an update on some of the things 6.1/6.2 families can expect in the near future. Parent-Teacher Interviews A since thank you to everyone who took time out of their schedule to come and meet with us during Parent-Teacher Interviews. It was great to meet with so many families. As always, the ten minutes goes so fast, but we feel confident that we gained a deeper insight into the ways we can continue to support your children in school. Student Vote! On the Thursday prior to Fall Break, students in Grade 6 sponsored a highly successful student vote event that saw 541 students cast their vote for the candidate of their choice in the Calgary-Heritage riding. We will be able to share the results of the vote once the results of the official vote are released. The students learned a lot through this process and we look forward to them demonstrating their newly acquired knowledge on a few follow up assignments this week. YouthLink experience! 6.1 and 6.2 students will be visiting the Calgary Police Museum & Centre of Prevention in support of their "Evidence and Investigation" inquiry. The trip is scheduled for Monday November 4. Screenagers: The Next Chapter Our school will be hosting the documentary "Screenagers: The Next Chapter" this Wednesday. Students will be watching the documentary after lunch on Wednesday and parents are invited to an evening screening here at the school beginning at 6:30. In preparation for the film, we have shown the students a trailer and had a few discussions about what topics may come up in the film. Please speak with your child about this documentary and the takeaways they have after viewing it. Here is a link to the trailer for the documentary. PD Day of Friday - No classes
Staff of Connect Charter School will be attending the 2019 Charter School Conference being hosted at the Calgary Arts Academy campus near the Stampede grounds. We are excited to connect with other teachers and exchange ideas about how to best support our students. Students have been practicing their computation skills on a weekly basis in mathematics, working on their problem solving skills and sharing their mathematical understanding on the "Jumbotron of Mathematics".....
After our visit to Camp Chief Hector students shifted their attention from the night sky to honing their investigation skills. Students are learning to interpret trace evidence and deduce what the evidence can tell. Print taken by one of our crack investigators - Jayden C.
