It is no secret that Grade 6 students have been highly engaged in the recent municipal election. We were fortunate to visit with four of the five candidates running for the Ward 11 city council seat prior to Election Day, and we were very excited when the fifth emailed us that he would be coming in to visit with us. Newly elected city councillor, Jeromy Farkas joined us on Thursday morning to discuss his new role as the representative of Ward 11 constituents. Mr. Farkas spoke with students and teachers for an hour and answered a variety of questions that pertain to the Grade 6 Social Studies curriculum. He discussed the work he put into his campaign as well as the reasons he chose to enter the political arena. He also explained how he plans to tackle his new role and deal with the challenges that he will surely face in his new position.
