In English Language Arts, students have been introduced to various skills and techniques related to helping them powerfully communicate their ideas. We began the year looking at words and honing our word attack skills to develop our vocabularies. Lately, we have been examining the benefit of using sayings and expressions in our writing to bring more drama and intrigue to our messages. Now, we are going to examine (and in some cases re-examine) various literary devices that can enhance our communication. The "Devices Worth Devouring" project kicked off today with an examination of similes and metaphors. Students will be conducting their own research into these literary techniques and creating comprehensive slideshows featuring ten popular devices.
