SW school in Calgary having problems on phone usage By: Benjamin C
Are you tired of people ignoring you when they are on cellphones? Connect Charter School, in Calgary AB is having issues with cellphone usage among all grades 4-9. Lately, the students are seeing people on their cellphones during recess times and even when there is a mandatory recess. The school has not made any rules for cellphones used and bought to the school. The school is known for its camps and field trips and the technology that is given to the students. People on phones use it for games, social media, texting, calling, movies, YouTube, etc. The more people spend time with their cellphones, the more they get less socially involved with people. They can lose concentration in classes and school work. It can be dangerous because they can get cyber bullied and other people can access and get information of their accounts. Avery Barber from 6.2 says that normally she just uses her phone for calling and texting her parents. She sees people using their cellphones inside and outside of the school during recess. She says ”I think that the school should make a rule to ban using the phones during recess times”. Alex from 6.2 says that she uses her cellphone to post pictures. She says that she makes her account private”. She thinks there should be a rule to be cellphones to be in peoples backpacks during the whole day. “I heard there are people who connect to the school Wi-Fi so the teachers should type the password for the students I-Pads” said Alex. Sometimes phones can be used for learning and useful purposes like Khan Academy, math games, tools, news, etc. Other schools have rules for phones used but this school is having issues and don’t even notice that. The school should make rules soon or else the issue will become a hazard. To learn more about this school, visit the schools website here
