Have you ever wondered if your child will find friendship and athleticism in one sport? The Cal west minor basketball association (CMBA) in Calgary, Alberta has 4 divisions depending on your age they go in this order Mini, Bantam, Midget and Juvenile. There are 12 teams in each division from team 1-12. There are many kids playing for the Cal west teams, there is also a girls division. The events have already started and the games are up and running! All teams have been through 6 seating round games, 5-7 practices and at least 4 games. At the end of the season the playoffs start, there are 6 games in the playoffs. When the playoffs end there is a tournament that Basketball teams from all over Calgary and beyond, compete to get a trophy. The reason so many adults and parents use there time to come out and teach kids Basketball is because they want kids to know the fundamentals of basketball. Team 6 Power forward Aiden McAllister said “I think that Bantam will provide a great challenge along with learning new skills, one of the most important things I’ve learned is screening the ball and screening away from the ball.” Ben Chai stated that “The basketball nets are higher and there are bigger and older people on each team.” One of the greatest things about this basketball organization is how the referees are so fair and nice to the players and coaches. For example I was at one of the games and one of the referees kept commenting one how the players are doing. I even heard one give advice to a player with his shot. “Because the courts are bigger you have to run more and you will get exhausted quicker.” Explained Ben Chai who plays for team 8 Bantam. The great experiences your child will take away from this event will be helpful for a great chunk of there life. Such as Friendships, fundamentals, skills, respect, good sports, smarts, working as a team, athleticism, and last but definitely not least Basketball skills.
